Creation

Created by writer/artist Andrew W. Rowland, the Demolition Squad and its members Demolisher, Ballbreaker, Hardhat, Cutting Torch, Nitro, and Wide Load first appeared in the pages of G-Man Comics' Taranis the Thunderlord #6 (May, 2026) by Eric N. Bennett, Luis Rivera, and Téo Pinheiro.

Team Evolution

Each member of the Demolition Squad possesses vast superhuman strength and durability as a result of the experimentation that was performed on them, though to varying degrees. Demolisher herself is the physically strongest member, while Hardhat possesses the highest degree of invulnerability. Additionally, Demolisher and Ballbreaker each wield personal weapons (a sledgehammer and wrecking ball, respectively) which increase the amount of damage they can inflict. Meanwhile, Cutting Torch can generate high- intensity heat in her hands and fingertips that allow her to, as her name implies, cut through and melt all but the most durable of materials. Nitro, on the other hand, possesses the ability to detonate objects, causing them to explode with tremendous force with a mere touch. Wide Load, in addition to being the second strongest member of the team, and the only male, possesses the ability to cause his personal gravity field to increase to the point where he becomes a nigh-immovable object.

The Demolition Squad have often come into conflict with other such mercenary forces like The Obliterators, The Savage Seven, and the Big Guns, as well as being frequent adversaries of the self-styled thunder god, Taranis the Thunderlord.

Encounter with Taranis

Following the destruction caused by the battle getween Taranis, Valthana Shadowmoon, and the Fomorian giant Beglog the Snake-Limbed, the Demolition Squad sought to take advantage of the aftermath by raiding damaged banks, jewelry stores, and other locations containing valuables and currency.

During their exploration, they encountered Taranis as he was aiding in the recovery efforts. At first ctahcing him off-guard, Taranis soon turned the tide and defeated the Demolotion Squad. However, Wide Load, who was not immediately present for the fight, caught Taranis unawares and struck him from behind, sending him crashing through another building.

With Taranis out of the way, Wide Load gathered up his teammates and escaped, choosing discretion as the better part of valor.

The current whereabouts of the Demolition Squad is unknown, though a future return and confrontation with Taranis is inevitable.
