The Young Defenders were "Whitey" (Later "Beanie"), "Lefty", "Slim" and Joanna,who were paperboys for the Daily Bulletin that was owned by Don Wright (Captain Freedom).They learned to hon their detective skills and learned the martial art form of Ju-jitsu .
