The term demon has a myriad of uses in fiction mainly due to its emotive traditional meaning. Demons are often characterized as devious and/or brutal beings deformed with horns and sometimes able to disguise their forms. They are exclusively on the side of evil and are tempters of people in order to obtain their souls or physical bodies to drag down to Hell.
In some twists to the tradition characters such as Spawn are given demonic powers by a demon who then uses those powers to defy hell and his demonic master.

A demonic plague is a catastrophic event where dark supernatural forces invade the mortal realm, often triggered by the opening of a Hellmouth or breaking of ancient seals, leading to widespread chaos, possession, and destruction.
