Overview
"Ghost" is an over arching term that can apply to any number of entities, feelings or sensations. The ghost in question may be benign or malevolent and maybe referred to by any number of differing names, some implying the ghost is either threatening or non-threatening. Ghosts in popular culture often are in some way the manifestation of a once living creatures soul following its death. They may be heralded by sounds or sensations and once manifest may produce and leave ectoplasm following their departure.
Ectoplasm
Ectoplasm has a few definitons, but is often described the supposed visual representation or physical manifestation of emanations from psychic mediums, magic wielders, and other paranormal characters during seances, spell castings, and other paranormal encounters as a type of light, or a moving mist. Other definitions describe Ectoplasm as the "aura" which surrounds a ghost or other paranormal spirit, and lastly, Ectoplasm can take form as a type of hard construct, appearing in different forms which can affect spirits and humans, most commonly as a gooey substance.
