Origin

While moving the apprehended Super-Adaptoid, the S.H.I.E.L.D. transport containing the robot was attacked by A.I.M. who took the Super-Adaptoid as their own captive for study on their island base in the Philippines. Hoping to reproduce the Super-Adaptoid's abilities for their own gain, A.I.M.'s experiments created a small army of copies of the original Adaptoid, which back-fired and resulted in the Super-Adaptoid breaking free. Now with an army of Adaptoids created by A.I.M. which would follow his orders as their "father", the Super-Adaptoid laid waste to A.I.M.'s island base.

Creation

The Super-Adaptoid was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first appeared in Tales of Suspense #82, The Adaptoids, based on the original Super-Adaptoid, were created by Mark Gruenwald, Terry Kavanagh, Bob Harras, Dave Hoover and Mike Deodato Jr. and first appeared in Captain America #440.
