The Annunaki is an alien race that brought intelligence to the life on Mars and Tiamat. When Mars and Tiamat went to war, both races were destroyed. The Annunaki mourned for eons. They then gave intelligence to the life on Earth.

In order to stop the life on Earth from destroying itself they built Marduk, a massive destroyer that could sense the upcoming self annihilation of the people of Earth. It was made to preserve life by destroying it.

The aliens were inspired by the Sumerian deities of the same name.
