Origin
When Blade is possessed by Varnae, the first vampire, he takes over the vampire cult, The Structure, and casts an Atlantean magic spell that turns darkforce users into fountains of darkforce energy. This darkforce fills the sky causing permanent night as part of The Structure's plan for world domination. A number of heroes were forced to fight back against the vampire hordes. When Dagger realizes her light based powers can purify and cure recently turned vampires, she is joined by a few other heroes to keep the streets safe.

The team slowly assembles as part of the 2024 series Blood Hunters, eventually becoming an official team in issue #4
Major Story Arcs
Posts-Crisis
After Doctor Doom cleared the skies of darkforce, the vampires magically were able to withstand the sunlight. With vampires still running amok, the Blood Hunters decided to stick together. While Dagger was more focused on using her powers to cure any vampires she could, Elsa Bloodstone was more focused on taking out the monsters before they could take out anyone else. Their agendas came to a head when they came across Miles Morales, who was turned during the crisis. Unfortunately Dagger's powers didn't work on him, putting him in Elsa's crosshairs.
The fight between Miles and Elsa allowed members of The Bloodcoven to get the drop on them. They were nearly overwhelmed, and Dagger's most recent release of energy left her injured. Bloodstorm, leader of the Bloodcoven, believed Dagger's light mutated blood was the key to retaking the city. Tracking down the vampire nest, Yelena Belova would lead the remaining Blood Hunters on a raid to save Dagger.
Once the raid started, Bloodstorm fed on Dagger and manifested his own light-based powers. Elsa was forced to use a Captain America mask that Eve loaned her, making her stronger and taller with a bloodstone shield. They managed to keep The Bloodcoven busy until Cloak was recuperated enough to trap the Bloodcoven in the Darkforce Dimension. They all agreed to be available if the Blood Hunters ever needed to reunite.
