The Brotherhood of Baal was a Malibu-based cult led by Danton Vayla. Vayla was featured in newspapers promising transubstantiation of the soul. Lissa Russell briefly joined the Brotherhood in order to find a cure for her brother's lycanthropy but left when their rhetoric turned towards human sacrifice. Vayla sent acolytes of the Brotherhood to abduct her from her home in order to make an example to others who thought to betray the cult. Vayla's appearance in newspapers also attracted the Frankenstein Monster, who hoped his soul could be placed in a body allowing him a normal human existence. Lissa's brother, Jack--the Werewolf By Night--discovered his sister's plight, and soon, both monsters followed separate leads to Vayla's cliffside mansion, which served as the base of operations for the Satanists. In spite of conflict between the werewolf and the Frankenstein Monster, the pair eventually set aside their differences in time to save Lissa Russell from being sacrificed to Baal by Vayla. As the encounter escalated into a battle, Vayla was killed by a falling inverted cross and the mansion caught fire and fell into the Pacific Ocean, many of the Brotherhood members unconscious or trapped inside. The death of Vayla, the cult's high priest, and of so many of its members were apparently enough for the Brotherhood of Baal to disband, as they have not been seen since.
