Origin

Not everything listed in the origin is Canon. That is because only television shows and movies are considered canon for Star Trek. This being a comic website there are many things here that are not canon. So unless it is contradicted in film it should be listed as part of the character biography.
The Lirins are a humanoid race of people with purple skin and great mental abilities. They are also a people with very strict societal rules. They are almost completely isolated from the rest of the universe. They also only have people to fill certain roles in their society. In other words. Every child born on the planet is raised to fill a certain role. An exception was made when they were visited by a Federation starship and a new role in their society was added to be an ambassador and member of the Federation.
The new Lirin named Nano was raised to fill the role as Ambassador to the Federation and join Starfleet. He excelled in Starfleet and became the communication officer on the U.S.S. Enterprise. Unfortunately, his people were faceing and before unknown threat as many of there people were dying and new people could not be replaced fast enough. It is at this time that they call Nano back to fill one of the roles left vacant.
Nano does what they request and finds that the Lirins have literally created there own problems that manifested itself through their own mental powers. This is done by fire as the people manifest their fear of the unknown into fire that consumes people. Nano and the rest of the Enterprise Crew discover this and a decition is made that Nano needs to keep exploring the galaxy so the Lirins will no loner fear the unknown.
