This special unit is called out for investigations of the paranormal like ghouls, zombies, vampires, etc which exist out in the open in the series. The acronym "RPIT" is pronounced "rip it" and sometimes referred by other playful nicknames like spook squad. It is not considered a glamorous assignment by any means and being assigned to it usually indicates that the officer ticked off the wrong beaurocrat.
