Origin

After the New Warriors took on villains that they were ill-equipped to handle, Standford, CT was destroyed in a nuclear-like explosion. To get the superheroes a semblance of checks and balances, Tony Star sponsored the Super-Hero Registration Act, which would require all superheroes to work for the government. Part of the act was the establishment of the 50-State Initiative, where each of the U.S. states would receive their own version of the Avengers, with heroes trained by former and active Avengers. The Harvesters were assigned to Kansas.

Creation

The Harvesters debuted in Marvel Zombies Supreme #2 by Frank Marraffino and Fernando Blanco

Major Story Arcs

Marvel Zombie Supreme

Project Pegasus was experimenting on a zombie virus strain on the Squadron Supreme, a team of heroes from an alternate universe. That team's powerhouse, Hyperion (a pastiche of DC's Superman), managed to escape and crash landed in Kansas, activating The Harvesters as that state's superteam.

They were considerably outmatched.

  • Topeka and Meadowlark were ripped apart and consumed
  • Grain Belt was blown away by super breath
  • Sunflower was burned by heat vision

Pioneer managed to survive when Hyperion keeled over and died. He had been eating livestock infected with Mad Cow's Disease, which apparently did not agree with the zombie infection. She would later join The Paladins, a team made up of former Initiative members.
