A prestigious Polish detachment of the Imperial Guard formed in 1804 under the command of Wincenty Krasiński. While their contemporaries were using sabers and pistols, the "Polish Horse" saw the return of the Lance to the battlefield; and with devastating effect. As lethal as they were impressive to look upon, the Polish lancers saved the emperor, Napoleon's life on at least three separate occasions.
