The Riot Squad is a small band of super-powered criminals that have joined forces to overcome and defeat their common enemies in the superhero team - The Mighty Crusaders.

Founded by the assassin known as The Eraser with his "Ion Weapon", a device that can transform a human into solid steel; he was joined by The Buzzard, a criminal mastermind who had the power of flight and enhanced strength, along with Sting, a murderous villain patterned after a venomous insect armed with toxic, retractable claws.

The Riot Squad is most infamously noted for the killing of Matthew "Kip" Burland, the original Black Hood. They successfully attacked and infiltrated the Crusader's headquarters in Crusader Mountain, where they engaged in battle with them. Their battle was interrupted by the appearance of the Brain Emperor, who hypnotizes the Crusaders, and informs the Riot Squad he has come to claim them as his own super-powered servants.

During this encounter, Sting mortally wounds Doc Reeves, and the villains use the time to escape and board the Comet's spaceship.

In their second battle, which takes place aboard the Comet's ship, he manages to blast the Brain Emperor with his optic rays, releasing the Crusader's from their trance. In a panic, the Brain Emperor flees, abandoning the Riot Squad. In the ensuing battle, the Crusaders, still weakened from their trance-like state escape from the ship via a teleporter as Comet's optic blasts have damaged the ship to a critical state.

It is as the last of the Crusaders teleport out, the ship explodes, killing all three members of the Riot Squad.
