Edwin Slaughter
A Scarlet Mask in the Order of St. George
- Intellect
- Super Sight
Origin

Edwin was raised by a rich mother who lived in an expensive condo complex. The complex was stalked by a fear-eating monster living in the pool, who would eventually be named Hermes. Bored with the flavorless banal fears of Edwin's neighbors, Hermes singled out Edwin for two reasons. His mother had a single, unique fear of losing Edwin, and Edwin was so introverted he lacked emotional bias, making the stories he told born from his memories instead of his imagination. Hermes killed his mom and set Edwin up to get the attention of The House of Slaughter. During his initiation, Hermes secretly killed the testing monster so that he could replace that monster as Edwin's totem, giving him the opportunity to continue nibbling at Edwin's tasty memories of his mother.
Creation
Edwin debuts in House of Slaughter #6 by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera.
Major Story Arcs
Camp Sturgeon

At Camp Sturgeon, the body of a nine year old girl washed up on the shore of Lake Michigan with her eyes missing. Common eye injuries among children started accumulating at the camp. The House of Slaughter does not believe it is the work of a monster, however, the suspicious frequency of these common injuries could spread fear through the kids and thus birth a new monster. Edwin is sent to investigate and report back.
Unfortunately, his presence at the camp ground starts gathering too much attention, so he takes a boat out to the middle of the lake where he cannot be watched. While contemplating some weird memories that are half-formed, he confronts his totem about stealing bits and pieces of it from him. Hermes comes clean about everything, just as the two are stalked by the dragon that lives in the lake. Edwin acts out of character and tries to kill the monster.
This prompts Hermes to reveal himself and attack the dragon to rescue Edwin. This gets the attention of the some of the campers, but they only get to see Edwin emerge from the bloody lake alone. Once he returns to The House of Slaughter, he reports what happened, but his fellow Scarlet Masks don't believe him. After the Camp Sturgeon investigation, Edwin transferred to the morgue at the House of Slaughter. He was tasked with silencing Bait with surgery. Edwin faked the surgery, knowing Bait would never speak anyway and liking the simplistic way of Bait's communication skills.
Two Edwins
While the two of them were hanging out in the library, Bait and Edwin caught azure mask Nolan Slaughter spying on them. Nolan was suspicious that Edwin was triggering two different biomarkers on the house security system. Edwin genuinely did not seem to know what Nolan was talking about, so the trio teamed up to investigate. Through independent investigations, they uncover a number of phenomena around the house that bears striking similarities to phenomena that occurred at the New York branch right before it was closed.
Believing the house was being targeted, Nolan uploaded Edwin's DNA evidence to their intranet and got a ping on the double glitch. After following it, they found Edwin's former totem, Hermes, previously presumed dead but now a duplicitype of Edwin. Hermes had been secretly taking everyone in the House out with the help of all the retired totems. Bait had attacked Hermes and nearly got the upperhand while Nolan and Edwin tried to help any survivors. Unfortunately, Bait's totem was among the retired totems, distracting him from his goal.
To rescue Bait, Edwin destroyed the totem and reminded Bait that he was his hero. Inspired, Bait shook off the trauma of his previous failures and joined a group of Azure Masks fighting Hermes. Together, they were able to destroy him, however, Gerde Slaughter of the Scarlet Masks revealed herself to be a new type of shapeshifting oscura, responsible for the attack at House of Blood in New York. Surrounded by hunters, Gerde lost control of her shapeshifting abilities, giving Bait an opening for a kill shot.
In the aftermath, Edwin and Bait were made Silver Masks, responsible for investigating and hunting more of these new shapeshifting oscuras.
