History
Origin
Chosen in the 1940s to become the first of the government's genetic experiments, the super-soldier known as Diehard is one of Youngblood's most mysterious members.
Though he has served in nearly every incarnation of the team, none of his teammates know his true identity. Commonly believed to be the first successful fusion of man and machine, Diehard is characterized by those who know him as a man struggling to understand his own identity. With such a long history of membership in the Youngblood program, Diehard is understandably wary of the arrival of new Diehard units, updated models for which he was the template. Regarded more as a combat unit than a man, Diehard is also constantly wary of his selection for assignments regarded to be "suicide missions."
The 21st Century
In 2017, Diehard is inaugurated as President of the United States.
The Distant Future
Diehard lives on into the distant future where he is allied with Old Man Prophet in the war against the Earth Empire.
Creation
Diehard was first created by Rob Liefeld in 1980 at age 13 as one of his earliest comic book characters. Early sketches depicted Diehard as a potential member of The Legion of Superheroes, one of Rob's favorite superhero teams. By 1992, Rob revamped Diehard's first incarnation into his current form (which was also based on another incarnation from a failed Teen Titans proposal in 1991 and was suppose to be a S.T.A.R. Labs android) and appeared in Youngblood #1.
