Origin

Jion Seto was a decorated soldier and leader in the Japanese military. However, Seto was exhausted and pulling away from his wife, a prolific doctor. To distance himself from Earth's war and revitalize his marriage, Seto accepted a job from Better World as a warden on Exodus. He was assigned to a herd of deer, but the neural network interface replaced the war as a barrier between Seto and his wife.

Creation

Stag first appears in Rook: Exodus #3 by Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok.

Search for Bloodhound

After the World Engine failed and Better World evacuated the wealthier residents, Stag and his wife stayed to protect those left behind. Unfortunately, they were targeted by Bloodhound, the creator of the warden helmets who had been taken over by the minds of his pack of wild dogs. They ransacked the town, and Stag's wife did not survive. Stag set his sights on Bloodhound for revenge.

Stag tracked him to an access hatch to the World Engine under a mountain. He found other wardens, Rook, Dire Wolf, and Matterhorn protecting the rabid Bloodhound from swarming spiders, which were controlled by Arachne, the spider warden. Stag slayed the spiders and then demanded they deliver Bloodhound to him. Rook refused, believing the man in the helmet being their only hope at restarting the World Engine. While they two confronted one another, Dire Wolf removed Bloodhound's helmet, clearing his mind for the first time in a long time.

Powers and Abilities

Neural Network Helmet: As a Warden, Stag was given a special helmet that allowed him to control a particular group of animals to help terraform the planet of Exodus. In his case, it was deer.

  • Communication: They come equipped with two-way communicators to other Wardens
  • Instinct Influence: The neural connection is two-way, and the animals can sometimes influence their own instincts on to their wardens. The scientists who developed the tech believed that the animals would be too weak minded to have a significant effect on humans.

Weapon Master: In addition to his helmet, Stag uses a few archaic weapons, including a sword and a bow and arrow.
