Civil War
The Cobbler was sent to the past with a cache of modern weapons to ensure the Confederacy is victorious. In one version of the timeline, he must have been successful because The Northerner was sent from a Confederate future to stop him. The Cobbler had hired British cad, Simon Pure, to help him with his deliveries. Simon was convinced by the Northerner to join his mission since Simon was immortal as long as America remained united.
They tracked him down to one of his sales and attacked guns-blazing. The Cobbler fired back nearly killing The Northerner, but Simon used a grenade to destroy his artillery. The resulting explosion killed The Cobbler, who boasted that he wasn't the only time traveler sent to help the confederacy with his last breath.
