Origin
David Innes was a mining heir who financed his inventor friend, Abner Perry's "iron mole," an experimental excavating vehicle. During a test run, the two discover that the vehicle can't turn once underground and it burrows deep into the Earth's crust and emerges into the hidden, prehistoric underground world of Pellucidar.
Innes later manages to lead the prehistoric humans of Pellucidar in a successful revolution to overthrow their oppressive reptilian masters, the Mahars, and their ape-like servants, the Sagoths.
He went on to have many adventures in Pellucidar, several of them alongside his trusted friend, Tarzan.
