Origin
Iara was a great warrior in Brazil. Her abilities and reputation pleased her father every day. Her two less capable brothers were excluded from his affections. As a result, her brothers made a plan one night to murder her. Luckily for her, they underestimated her skills in battle and she slaughtered them as soon as they approached her. After this unfortunate and grim event, she fled to the woods. Her grieving father pursued her, seeking vengeances. He then threw the daughter he once loved into the waters below. This however did not kill Iara, instead she grew a fish tail replacing her legs. She would now be the protecter of the sacred waters by luring evil man who stepped to close to the edge.
Creation
She is apart of Brazilian folklore but was introduced into DC comics by Joelle Jones.
