Origin

Yara Flor is from Brazil but left with her aunt figure Renata to the United Stated during childhood. She went back to Brazil as an adult, despite Renata's disapproval. There she learned of her mom's past and reunited with her tribe. Hera trained Yara to be her champion but after the training was done Yara refused. After Yara escaped Hera's prison, she remained in Brazil with her sisters. Later Wonder Woman would give her the title, Wonder Girl, in Trial of the Amazons.

Creation

Yara Flor was created by Joëlle Jones for DC Future State event According to Yara Flor's creator, the look of the superheroine was inspired by the Brazilian indigenous model Suyane Moreira.

Major Story Arcs

Back to Brazil

Upon returning to Brazil, Yara saved someone and met João. She then heard music from a waterfall and when she went to investigate, met a mermaid-like create who revealed herself as Iara, who Yara was named after. She then went on a flight back to Rio and was attacked by an Amazon. The plane then was brought to the ground by the gods Zephyros and Eros, the latter of whom had fallen in love with her. Yara and João reunited but were interrupted when Eros hit her with his arrow, causing her to fall in love with him. Eros then brought Yara to meet Hera.

Mount Olympus

Upon arriving at Mount Olympus, Hera made Yara her "project". Yara was trained and tutored by Chiron and Eros and was given gifts from the gods. Yara and Chiron went into the woods and Yara realized that she couldn't control her powers, which upset her but also led her to name her horse Jerry. At the next training station, it was clear that she her behavior had changed. She was more calm than angry. On a walk with Eros, he told her that Hera wanted Yara to become her champion, but it would require giving up a lot. Yara said she wanted to visit Brazil one last time first.

Back at Brazil, she reunited with João before meeting someone who claimed to know her some time ago, a woman named Potira. Potira showed her Themyscira years ago and showed her her mother. She declared that Yara must join the tribe that her mother was once apart of, but was interrupted when Artemis and Cassie Sandsmark showed up. Artemis, upset, confronted her. Cassie tried to defuse the situation and gave Yara some advice. Yara then returned to Mount Olympus to become Hera's champion.

However, she ended up refusing the drink the Ambrosia, which angered Hera and Eros. Hera then ordered that she be sent to Tartarus, but instead Yara ended up fighting Hephaestus's army. When she defeated them, she summoned Jerry. The two tried to find a way off Mount Olympus but couldn't and were stuck roaming around there. However, Hephaestus seemingly killed Jerry. Yara was defeated when she tried to fight him and Hera arrived, telling her that Hephaestus wanted a word with her.

This ended up with Yara being sent to Tartarus, where she encountered some creatures there before she ran. Turning around, Yara saw that they were running from a giant-size man, as it appeared. Yara was locked in a cage and no matter what she tried, couldn't escape. During her time of captivity, Eros visited her, asking why she rejected Hera. They ended up arguing and, sometime after he left, the giant-sized man came back and grabbed her. They fought and Yara won, which was when Jerry showed up and Yara realized that he was still alive. They flew out of Tartarus where Yara caught Jerry up on what happened. They walked around Mt. Olympus until they came across large doors. Thinking she heard a voice, Yara opened them, only to be confronted by Eros' army (not that she knew that it was his).

Yara and Jerry started attacking the army. Meanwhile on the mortal side of the gates to Mount Olympus, Donna, Cassie and the Esquecidas tried to push open the gates. Yara fought Eros harder as she realized the army was the same army that had attacked her tribe and killed her mother. A solider knocked her out from behind. As Eros stood over her she snapped back up and punched his helmet right off. Revealing his face, exposing him as Aella's murderer.

Yara backed up in disgust but he grabbed her. Eros told her how they were meant to be together and that's one of the reasons he killed her mom. Yara attacked Eros. She threw her golden boleadoras so hard that it destroyed the gate, letting the Esquecidas and other Wonder Girls in. A big battle started but Zeus started inferring. He started throwing lightning bolts down at Yara and her allies.

One struck between Yara and Eros, sending them flying back. Eros ended up beneath some rocky debris. Defeated, Eros released Yara from the love spell he had put her under. Cassie reasoned with her grandfather to stop. Therefore Yara, Cassie, Donna, Jerry, and the Esquecidas walked away in victory.

Trial of the Amazons

A giant boar attacked the Esquecidas but Yara could tell it came from Mount Olympus. They defeated the monster but still had some losses. Queen Gaboymila held a meeting to discuss what the giant boar and Anahi's visions could all mean. The Queen decided they must go to Themyscira, where the doorway of doom is kept that holds more creatures from hell! The Queen sent Potria to go and act as queen in her place. She let Potria pick who went with her but requested Yara went with her. Since she is from both worlds.

When they got there it was announced that there would be a competition held between the three tribes. It would determine who would be the new guardian of Doom's Doorway and whose queen would rule over all the Amazons. They had a feast all together first. Hippolyta and Yara shared a tender moment where Hippolyta told her she knew her mom. She said she was a fierce and passionate woman. Headstrong at times but there was no one else who'd rather want fighting by your side. Sadly Hippolyta died a two hours later. After the funeral they still decided to go through with the contest.

Each tribe would pick a champion. The Esquecidas picked Yara as their champion. Yara and the other champions were in the stadium ready to go. When all of a sudden the floor collapsed and sent them to the tunnels under Themyscria. They decided to work as a team to get through the tunnels. They fought the mother of all monsters to get back. When they got back the doorway of doom had been opened and chaos was loose. Yara helped fight the monsters and chaos. It took Antiope and Atalanta sacrificing themselves to close the doors. At the end Diana gave Yara a new tiara, one with three stars to represent the three tribes. She placed it on her head and proclaimed her as the new Wonder Girl!

Dark Crisis

After the death of the Justice League, Jon Kent decided to put together a new team of Superhero's. Yara Flor was fighting a some fire demon in the Amazon rainforest when Jon swept in to help defeat him. Jon told Yara about him putting together a new team. Yara laughed and declined, but wished him luck as she flew off with Jerry.

Shorty after the Titans Tower was attacked by Deathstroke. This made Yara change her mind. She walked into the Hall of Justice just at the right time. Black Adam was about to snap Count Vertigo's neck so Yara used the golden lasso to pull one of his arms away. Black Adam took it as a challenge, but Yara told him she didn't even know him, he then stormed out. Yara approached Jon to join his little Justice League.

Yara goes with Jon, Nightwing, and Alan Scott to a hidden hall for magic users. There they hold a seance also with Swamp thing, Raven, Jade, Obsidian, Doctor Fate, and John Constantine. They are trying to get close to the darkness that is coming to earth. Obsidian takes the darkness and touches his dad's power ring. Sending the team they had chosen into the ring. Yara Flor is one of the heroes that stays guard just in case something comes out of the ring that isn't supposed to. After some complications, the team returns victorious with the machine that started it all.

Soon Pariah and the dark army attack the Hall of Justice. Yara Flor fights in the battle meanwhile the Justice League tries to escape their prison. Yara Flor gets her lasso tied around Pariah but he gets loose, which sends her flying. Just as he is about to use his powers on Yara, Jon and Jace use the machine to trap Pariah in some box. Which frees him of his curse as he turns into dust. But the dark army is still possessed. Just then, the Justice League appears and join the battle. Dr.Light combines her light with the Flash family's speed, which sends the dark army back to where the came from.

Revenge of the Gods

The old gods have been attacking human kind. Wonder Girl, Wonder Woman, Etta Candy and Cheetah try to come up with a plan to stop them. Yara suggests that Diana go up to the gods and confront them because she is the daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus. If the gods won't listen to her then they won't listen to anyone. Wonder Woman agrees and travels to Mount Olympus to plead their case.

Billy Baston is in D.C on a bus when Orthros attacks it. Shazam and the hooded man fight it with Wonder Girl finishing it off. Shazam figures out that she must be the guide so he tells Yara about his vision. He says he has to confront the gods. She thinks he's crazy for wanting to do so but she does need to figure out what happened to Wonder Woman.

When Yara and Shazam confront Hera, she brings out the Shazam wizard who drains Shazam's power. Shriveled Shazam is in prison until Hecate and Yara save him. They have a short confrontation with Aphrodite and Hermes and then run into Hippolyta. She tells Shazam that she was the one in the vision and gives him his powers back. Wonder Girl and Shazam show up to join Wonder Woman's team who are fighting against the gods.

The hooded man is revealed to be Ares. Mary Marvel gives her powers to Wonder Woman. Even though the wizard gave Hera more power, Wonder Woman still beats her. Shazam reveals he's also Billy Batson to Yara, and asks her if she wants to get dinner with him sometime. She refuses.

Amazons Attack

Nubia and and Faruka were running from security when they ran into Yara. She was standing over passed out guards. A security reported that they attacked the president before getting taken over by something and attacking them. They all got pushed out of the glass skyscraper window with security. Mary Marvel came to their rescue and expressed regret that they never got to hang out during the Revenge of Gods event. She's a big Wonder Girl fan.

Mary's magical bunny Hoppy opened up a portal that transported them to Times Square. Pictures of all of them popped up on all the billboards with an announcement calling them terrorist and that they have a warrant for their arrest. The two queens and Wonder Girl were debating where Hoppy should transport them to. When light yellow gas appeared all around them and A golden apple dropped out from a box a guy was holding. It made the police more aggressive. Nubia recognized the golden apple being from Eris and Mary noticed the magi-tech in the man's chest. A grenade got tossed at them and they ran out of the way but they lost Mary in the process. Queen Nubia assigned Yara with finding Mary. Yara was fighting a police officer when she saw Mary getting blasted into the wall. They all regrouped and got transported to Akahim in Brazil for Anahi, the oracle.

Yara told them that Anahi said that by uniting the three of them, Yara could stop the death of the Amazons. But Yara didn't know how and that's why she needed Anahi. Just then they heard someone mumble a prophecy and traced it back to Anahi washed up by the river. She then told a new prophecy. One about how even tho the three were united, they would all still die. They then saw an empty attacked Akahim and the word Asylum was painted onto stone structure debris.

The two queens teleported to the Greek border. Yara promised to take unconscious Anahi somewhere safe and find her kidnapped sisters. Yara told Mary not to call her Wonder Girl, but just Yara. Yara brought Anahi to an Amazon safe house and found Cassie there. AXE broke in, they fought them off but Anahi disappeared.

Mary was fighting Count Vertigo just as Yara and Cassie busted through the wall. Count Vertigo started using his powers on Yara.

Cassie flew Mary and Yara out of there. As they're trying to put clues together, Mary says the word Asylum. Making Cassie and Yara possessed and making them fall. Yara seems to have a little bit of control as she tells Mary to trust her. Yara had been turned into a statue. We see Yara, Cassie, and other amazons in some other reality. Insecure thoughts start flooding Yara's head. An illusion of younger her tries to trick her, to get to her submit. But Yara breaks free and finally claims she is Wonder Girl. She helps fight Asylum with all the other freed Amazons. They take her down and give her up to AXE. They also declare that Amazons are here to stay.

Wonder Woman: World’s Finest/Fury

Diana is sitting at a cafe with all the Wonder Girls when she tells them they must choose their contest. Yara chooses arrows, Cassie chooses arms, and Donna chooses something different. Wonder Woman accepts their challenges. She does Yara's contest is first. Yara teases Diana for being older than her and says she will win because of it. They each shoot one arrow at each other, the arrows clash mid air. They shoot two arrows then three arrows, the same thing happens both times. Then they go to four arrows, they shoot and one of Diana's arrow strikes Yara in her lower stomach. Yara's arrow misses Wonder Woman.

Since Diana won, Yara had to swear to walk away from her war. Diana also beat Cassie in an arm wrestling and Donna in a video game. Later that day as Diana walked into her apartment, she saw all the Wonder Girls waiting for her. Yara said fuck the oaths, gods, and tourneys. They weren't gonna let her face this alone. Later Cassie does target practice with an apple on Sergeant Steel’s head as Yara begs for a turn. They were trying to get his satellite access to track Wonder Woman.

Donna takes them to the invisible jet. Donna tries to figure out how to work the plane but it ejects her into the air. Yara can’t remember if Donna flies and Cassie says she hopes so because she doesn't wanna press the buttons. Donna did get the plane up and flying. Yara admired the view as they flew and encouraged Cassie to look as well. Yara and Donna laugh at Cassie being scared. They land on the shore of the island Cheetah and Wonder Woman had been stranded on. Diana and Cheetah appeared. Cassie hugged Diana and then Cheetah hissed at Yara. Implying that their last team up didn't mean much. They hopped back in the plane and flew off.

Some time passed and Diana went missing again, so Batman and Superman went looking for her. First they asked Donna if she knew where she was, she didn't so she sent them to Cassie, who also didn't know so she sent them to Yara. Yara explained to them that Diana is all by herself and does not tell anyone where she is. Then she asked them if they wanted to fight for practice, she would enjoy breaking them.

Wonder Woman sends the three Wonder Girls and Cheetah on separate missions. Yara's is to rob a bank, for something specific. She introduced herself to the guy at the desk, and told him she only wants one thing, not everything from the vault. A police starts shooting at her but she uses her arm shields to ricochet the bullet and knock him out with her golden boleadoras. She got what she needed and when outside with the cops waiting. She reported to the group that she was almost done and just needed two more minutes to take down the rest of the police.

Donna takes on Giganta, Yara fights Sliver Swan and Cassie battles Angle man. Yara offers Silver Swan an opportunity in the start to surrender, she doesn’t take it. Instead she tackles Yara, sending them crashing into stone debris. Sliver Swan uses her wings to try to stab Yara while she still is laying there but Yara catches the blade. The blade makes Yara's hand bleed until she breaks the blade in half. She then throws the blade to slice Giganta's foot which makes her fall. Cassie then tosses Angle man's triangle weapon to Yara. Sliver Swan says Mercy but it's too late for that and Yara uses the weapon on her.

New Titans

Cyborg put together a team of New Titans to save the original Titans from his Robot self. Yara was Cyborg’s first pick to be in the New Titans. They fought the original Titans at first due to confusions but then they teamed up. Together they took down Robot Cyborg and fused him back with human Cyborg.

After that they moved into Mount Justice, which they like to call Mount Titans. Eva tries to get closer with her teammates by asking them one by one if they wanna play pickleball. Yara was tanning by the pool with her headphones on so she couldn’t hear Eva. Jon agrees to play pickleball with her but just then the other new titans interrupt them and Yara says they’re going to hit the town. As they’re exploring Happy Harbor they notice it’s too happy. They head to the beach and then Audrey Lee gets their attention.She tells them about Nebiros taking over the town and becoming Mayor. They then see the townpeople about to sacrifice a baby to him. Luckily they stop it and send him back to hell.

Jon Kent invites Static to join the team and he accepts. The Amazons of Esquecida come calling for the help of their Wonder Girl. A mining operation funded by Commodore Murphy’s Green corp has unearthed a long forgotten spirt. A jaguar spirt that was once a protecter of the Amazons and when it got unearthed so did some secrets. But when she arrives with the Titans, her tribe isn’t so welcoming of her new teammates.

Future State

Yara Flor, the daughter of an Amazon and Brazilian river god originates from the Amazon Rainforest in South America. Accompanying her is her winged steed, Jerry, and her friend a forest guardian spirit, Caipora. Yara set off on a journey to the Underworld to rescue one of her Amazonian sisters from Hades grasp

Yara is also an active member of the Justice League, despite not being very happy to be apart of the team. In 2040 Yara joined The Justice League to stop an invasion led by Starro/Darkseid, by 2070 she left the team due to their connection to The United Planet which she believe is a corrupted organization.

After the Justice League, Yara teamed up with Future State's Superman, Jon Kent, a couple times.

Princesses of the DC Universe

Yara is aged down to a teen in this and so she is leader of a new teen girl superhero squad. Even though she is unsure about the responsibility of leading. Her new squad is her, Steel, and Miss Martian. Plus Jerry. Their first adventure is helping Maxima to her home planet for her coming of age ceremony.

It was announced in 2020 that the CW will be developing a TV series based on Yara Flor. However, The CW decided not to move forward with the series as of February 2021.
