La Mota is a monkey in a a mask. He and his partner El Gigante used their Golden Fang of the Gaping Maw to enter The Dragon Challenge, a tournament where the winner gets to command the army of the Gaping Maw.
Creation
La Mota was created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos for their series Spider-Boy, La Mota is Spanish for The Speck, which is a nod to La Mota being much smaller then his partner El Gigante, or the Giant.

La Mota and El Gigante have won themselves a fighting challenge and their prize was a Golden Fang, which when turned in, enters them into the The Dragon Challenge fighting tournament, to which the grand prize is command of the Gaping Maw.
Their first fight is against Daredevil and Spider-Boy. They are defeated when Spider-Boy bites La Mota with his toxic bite and La Mota is knocked unconscious and El Gigante is no match for Daredevil.
Powers
While it doesn't show in the comics, La Mota must have some fighting skills because he and EL Gigante are one of only eight teams to make it to the finals of the Dragon Challenge.
