Conrad Mack's father, Collier, fought in the Vietnam War with his military unit, the Half Fulls. He and his fellow soldiers stumbled upon an ancient temple that was home to the Dragon's Breadth cult. After some coercion from the magics of the cults leader, Kai, Collier fell in love with one of the brides of the cult. He married her, and they had a son named Conrad.

Conrad was taught by his father in the skills that he learned during the war. Conrade also found a way to utilize his claws in battle. He was later found by Left Hand, his fathers former comrade, living on the streets because his feral nature made it hard for Conrad to interact with other people.

Conrade joined the Folding Circle to maximize his potential in life, taking the codename Smiling Tiger. He battled the New Warriors frequently, and on one occasion, stole the Avengers Quinjet that the New Warriors had stolen themselves. However, the Folding Circle crashed the Quinjet in Madripoor. There, they became major players in the underworld of crime.

Creation

Smiling Tiger was created by Fabian Nicieza and Mark Bagley in 1992 and first appeared in New Warriors # 21.

Story Arcs

Civil War

During the Civil War, Smiling Tiger registers under the Superhuman Registration Act and joins the Thunderbolts Army. The Thunderbolts had to fight off cities filled with civilians who were suddenly empowered when the Grandmaster opened up the Wellspring of Power. The Thunderbolts were broken up into numerous squads and sent to various locations throughout the world. Smiling Tiger was part of the Beta squad which also consisted of the Bloodstrike , Coronary, Texas Twister and Pretty Persuasion. This group was responsible of maintaining order in Los Angeles. During the fight, the mind of Smiling Tiger and Bloodstrike is taken over by the onslaught of the Wellspring's energies. Smiling Tiger and Bloodstrike turn on their teammates and take down Coronary and Pretty Persuasion.

Powers & Abilities

Conrad has razor sharp claws on his fingers and toes. He is an adept fighter, and has an advanced leaping ability. He is mute.
