Hugo and his twin, Ramona, were Latverian runaways on Doom Island, a Latverian territory in the Pacific Ocean. While the X-Men and the Fantastic Four were on the island to supervise Doctor Doom's experiments with Franklin Richards, a few members from each team went to look for them after Emma Frost perceived their anxiety, however, Ramona and Hugo chose to stay with Doom, who promised to protect all Latverian mutants after he predicted Krakoa would end in tragedy.
