Álvaro Martínez Bueno is a Spanish artist and comic book artist, currently at the helm of DC Black Label's Eisner Award-winning and Angoulême Best Series, The Nice House on the Lake, which is a worldwide bestseller.
Born in Cantabria, Álvaro Martínez trained in Salamanca, finishing his Fine Arts degree in 2004. He initially worked as an animator, as a storyboard artist for films such as The Impossible, Zipi y Zape, El Club de la canica and others. He has also worked as an advertising illustrator.
An exclusive author for DC Comics for several years now, his style combines masterful compositions with an incredible level of detail and an astonishing level of expression in his characters. Also applauded for his more classic depiction of superheroes, the Spaniard's pencils have brought to life some of the most iconic images in American comics in recent years.
In his long career as an artist at DC Comics, Álvaro Martínez Bueno has illustrated numerous titles, highlighting such mythical series as Batman, Detective Comics, Justice League Dark, Aquaman, Poison Ivy, Batman & Robin, Batman Eternal, Batman & Robin Eternal, Robin War, Grayson, Convergence: Booster Gold, Teen Titans and Nightmare Country, among others.
The Cantabrian author, who lives in Donostia/San Sebastián, is also known for his work as a cover artist and regular cartoonist on many Marvel Comics titles (Ultimate Comics: X-Men, Cataclysm: Ultimate X-Men, Iron Man Annual), Valiant Entertainment (Harbinger, Archer & Armstrong), Image Comics (Department of Truth, Nocterra) and Boom! Studios (House of Slaughter, Wynd).
Martínez Bueno is also a great collector of originals, and has a huge collection of Batman originals.
