The first volume of Howard the Duck, the creation of writer Steve Gerber. The series' first run lasted until issue 31, after which it was replaced with the Howard the Duck Magazine to attract a more mature audience, as had been intended for the comic. The series had been on hiatus for more than 6 years, but resumed in 1986 with issues 32 and 33, after which the series ended. The hiatus and later ending of the series was mostly due to legal conflict over who owned the character. Disney assumed it was too much a look-a-like of Donald Duck, and creator/writer Steve Gerber also claimed to be the sole owner of Howard. The series had one Howard the Duck Annual in 1977.
