Origin

Big sister to Johnny, and guardian to Gabi, when Gabi's big sister Fern died of cancer and promised her lover Riqui to watch her. Inherited the bar, The Luck of Irish from her father when he died.

Creation

Riqui was created by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera for their run on Something is Killing the Children. She first appeared in issue #21 and was an important character throughout the Road to Tribulation, Girl and the Hurricane and Showdown at the Easy Creek Coral story arcs.

When Gabi's family is murdered, Sheriff Carter brings Gabi to The Luck of the Irish so that Riqui could watch her for a bit, instead of putting Gabi in social services. Riqui relucently agrees and this starts the weirdest days of Riqui's life.

Erica Slaughter comes to Tribulation and tries to convince Riqui that a monster killed Gabi's family but is not until Riqui watches Erica get attacked by an invisible being before she starts to believe.

Even after the attack, Riqui believes she needs to talk to Carter, and this is how she gets Erica arrested. Later, Erica rescues Gabi and Riqui when Cutter comes to the station and starts to kill everyone.

After that, Riqui tries to make Erica promise to keep Gabi safe, but Erica can't do that, so Riqui promises that if anything happens to Gabi she will kill Erica. Erica respects that and the pair inact a plan to kill the Duplicitype that is terrorizing the town and hunting Gabi.

When the fight is about to start, Riqui hears Gabi scream for help, and she abandons Erica to fight the Duplicitype alone. It turns out that Cutter has Gabi and is using her as a human shield.

Gabi gets stabbed with at poison arrow in front of Riqui, and instead of dying helpless, Gabi allows herself to be eaten by the Duplicitype, poison the monster and Gabi dies for her sacrifice.

Later, when Cecilia Slaughter and the other White Masks show up, Carter tells them Cutter, Gabi and Erica are dead, he omits that Riqui is still alive and in the back of his patrol car. When Carter gets back in the car, Riqui tells him Erica is still alive and she is going to kill her for letting Gabi die.
