Black Planet
Doc Horror was feuding with Antonio Zampa, the heir to Narn K, when Zampa was killed by a former ally of the Nocturnals, Raccoon, who had dreams of becoming a gangster. He had killed Zampa to replace him in the criminal organization. While disposing of the body, Raccoon found a strange red octopus stuck under Zampa’s armpit. This information concerned Doc Horror, who believed the Crim had followed him to Earth. Doc was originally from a different planet, where he refused to share his wormhole technology with the parasitic Crim, who wanted to use it to take over more worlds.
To confirm his suspicions, he brought a few of his Nocturnals to the cemetery to dig up Zampa’s body. However, Gunwitch was assigned to watch over Don Zampa, who Doc still felt loyal to, in case the Crim came for him. Once confirmed, he told the story of his journey to Earth to his fellow Nocturnals, who all committed to taking the Crim out. Before they could plan their next move, Doc and Eve needed to see Don Zampa. Unfortunately, it was a trap set by Fane who bonded a Crim to Don Zampa. Gunwitch had already been hiding in the house and came to their rescue. They managed to free Don Zampa from the Crim and reveal Fane’s own Crim-like mutations. They were interrupted by a pair of detectives on a stakeout responding to the noise, so Doc and his family made their escape.
After that close call, Eve was instructed to stay home by her father. Instead, she convinced Komodo that Doc wanted the two of them to find a new way into the monster shop so they could free more of the test subjects. Unfortunately, they were caught by facility security in the tunnels underneath it and needed rescue. The Nocturnals, with Raccoon as their guide, teleported into the tunnels where Komodo and Eve were surrounded by Crims. Fane tried to run off with Eve, but Raccoon and Komodo managed to break all the hybrids out while the Crims were busy with the other Nocturnals. Together, they overwhelmed Fane, freeing Eve and ending the Crim’s world takeover.
The Dark Forever
For the last year, a few Nocturnals have been separated, but on this particular Thanksgiving, they were drawn back together by the holidays and an emerging zombie plague. In addition, Doc was preoccupied with an archaeological dig he started under the Tomb. It led to a mysterious door, hiding ancient architecture, which he explored with The Devil Lantern, a sentient lantern known for faustian bargains that he liberated from a bridge troll. The Nocturnals got concerned when Doc entered the door and it sealed behind him. The magic of the door affected Poly, which caused an ectoplasmic explosion, trapping Eve and Gunwitch on the wrong side of the door.
Eve and Gunny explored further, eventually finding Poly being cared for by the ghosts of fish-people. Soon after, they were reunited with Doc, who was accompanied by very alive fish-people, called Skerrl, as well as a young girl who had been trapped for 70 years, kept young but mutated by the Skerrl. While the girl told her story, the ghosts of the fish-people told Eve that she allied with the Skerrl and sicced them on her own parents. When Eve called her out, she had the Skerrl attack the Nocturnals, who narrowly escaped using a portal.
They teleported to the beach where Starfish, Raccoon, and Firelion were investigating zombies. Poly had absorbed the spirits that powered Skerrl magic and released them to the afterlife, however, it was too late. The Skerrl had already summoned a leviathan from the ocean floor. The Nocturnals were ready to run, but Star was able to command the leviathan as the last of the original fish-people. She sent it back to the ocean depths.
Outskirts of Doom
Gunwitch was escorting Eve back to school when they made their way through a town called Heliopolis. It meant Sun City, but it was an ironic name. They didn't get much sun which made them especially attractive to vampires. One clan predated the township and did what they could to keep the peace, preying on criminal types. As they thinned the criminal population, they were forced to turn to the other residents. It got even worse when a rival vampire clan came to town. After Gunwitch heard this from a human diner owner, he decided to stick around to confront the vampires.
Armed with vampire killing bullets, Gunwitch wandered into a fancy club full of gangster-like vamps and opened fire. This was witnessed by the biker gang vamps who mistook the Gunwitch was the professional their boss, Fang, said he hired. When the bikers brought Gunwitch back to their clubhouse, it got the attention of the gangster, who burned the building down, ending the shaky truce officially. They start negotiating for the life of a young girl that the gangsters want to protect. Gunny didn't like the bikers mistreating her, so he opened fire, saving her.
The bikers abandoned him, but the gangster clan invited him into the fold. The girl was the daughter of a local reverend, who offered her as a sacrifice to the gangster clan. Gunny accompanied gangster vamps getting the girl to safety in the mountains, until Gunny had the opportunity to kill them without question. This led the rest of the clan to see him as a traitor and tortured him with special Carpathian insects used to torture the undead.
Luckily, Eve didn't make it very far. She was keeping an eye on him. She recovered his weapons and helped him slip is shackles. They also had the perfect distraction when the biker's mercenary finally showed up. They were caught escaping by the clan leader, who had learned how to control Gunny. She turned him against Eve. Thankfully, the queen was attacked by Fang, and the two of them killed each other. With her gone, Gunny was no longer under control, and he and Eve could finally leave
